Well, some feedback from c64 lovers is requested on this Manual stuff. Here is what I did:

1. Rename Manual Folders to take out spaces and use _ in place of space with bulk rename.

2. Use Image Magick Convert.exe

3. Run this command on Manuals folder: for /f %f in ('dir /b') do convert "C:\Hyperspin\Hyperlaunch\Media\Manuals\Commodore 64\%f\*.jpg" "c:\Hyperspin\Hyperlaunch\Media\Manuals\Commodore 64\%f\%f.pdf"

4. Rename Manuals and Manual folders removing _ and put spaces back in.

5. Review the awesomeness that is the manuals.

Now the gotcha, is the fact that some games, Gateway to the Savage Frontier for example, have Adventurers Journal, Rulebook, etc. Those are combined into 1 PDF. How big of a deal is that? Should I take this all a step further and separate those out? If you are looking for space savings you won't find any, convert.exe just combines the images and dumps them through a PDF stream as is. I did not want to lose any quality any way so in my Gateway to the Savage Frontier example the JPGs are 42megs and the PDF is 42 megs.

Let me know any feed back. I am on the fence as to if it matters.

Edit my initial thought is 1 pdf on a cab is easier to deal with. No loss pdf quality so if someone wants to bust the pdf up they can. May be hard to find maps or something later but i made a best effort to put that stuff in inserts under artwork instead.

Stunning work Dougan - thanks a bunch!!!

Personally I would prefer if there are examples of games having multiple manuals then they are kept as separate PDFs but I fully understand that the extra work involved may be pushing your enthusiasm a bit too far.

Merging them into 1 PDF is probably fine for most but I think I may have a case of "Historically Accurate OCD"

I was making the batch convert to pdf harder than it is. I can just list the jpg files and change *.jpg to manual*.jpg or journal*.jpg and run it multiple times on the folders to get them all separate. So in conclusion. I would hold off on downloading the hl manuals part. As i will save that part for the very end when i declare i am tired of working on c64 which will be in January or so when i start my pincab.

Best I could do with the wheel. This game must be pretty rare. Maybe gigapip has this one in his attic to so we can get the best scan available anywhere on the net.

I'm able to do this work by using Adobe Acrobat Pro. This software will batch each file over the hole C64 manual folder to seperate PDF's.

It's is ok to rename the fresh PDF's to: Manual1.pdf; Manual2.pdf ??

with this kind, the newly created pdf is stored in the origin folder.

Ok for you guys? please give me a input.. then I will you get back the output :stupido2:

Preferably the Manuals are named after the rom. So what needs to happen is the following based on what I have so far:

1. Multidisk/tape games need folders created (Use files to folders).

2. Copy JPG versions of manuals to the multidisc folders

3. Either Bribbon's adobe pro method or my batch script needs to rip through all the folders and make the jpgs into a PDF named after the rom (or folder name).

4. For additional manuals (journals, comic books, story books, etc) would have Rom/foldername[Journal].pdf or whatever it is. would need to run through as well.

This will get it so when you are using any disc/tape access to the manuals. Alternately you could symlink all of the additional disks to the main folder to save space. As it is a whole 7 gigs right now big woopie on space I could care less. I want my own little, well large, C64 archive to enjoy.

My thoughts. I would hold off on all this until the end when call quits. So they can all be done at once, as it will be automated and should not take to much work, just putting the manuals additional folders for multidisc ones will take some time. No biggie.

Cheers!

Edit: And thank you for sharing your interest and willingness to help. If you can rename them to and leave them default name with adobe acrobat pro and reduce size while maintaining quality that would be stellar. If you can keep the name as is for each of the categories I could use a similar script as my PDF convert one to just rename them to the correct names. Teamwork perhaps. ":)

Dougan, a big personal thank you for adding those games on my list, I'm very pleased.

In fact I scanned the Suicide Express inlay last night and started working on it myself. I have dropped what I have in your ftp for your keen eye. I removed the background and redid the gradient.

Suicide Express is a ripoff? Or clone of Super Locomotive a Sega arcade game. I loved the speech, music and sound effects.

Here is what I came up with. In this case I would not do the stroke you had. And I did not do a fresh gradient as to me it looked too modern. Let me know. That is the best scan on the net BTW. I would send that over to the tape preservation project if I were you that is a badass scan.
