Oh I have manuals for most all the new ones I added. Now too see what circo did with all my rl media over at emumovies.. I hope he has it all there still.

The manuals for the games especially needed(lots of rpgs and text games) on this update is what makes these playable. Tough to figure out what to do when you are not 10 anymore.

Then use Files2Folders to put them into the appropriate game folders in RL\Media\Videos\Commodore 64\.  There may be a couple of dupes, but it is as close to perfect as I could get it.  Now if I get stuck on some of these I got some videos.   Check out the River Raid one that person rocks that game all the way to level 49!  That is epic!

Hello Sir, I am looking for the document that you wrote up on setting up Commodore-64-no-intro 23 September 2014. I can not locate it. As I an having issue with this system. Since you were very well spoke about by Simply Austin I thought I would reach out to you. I have it install but the games are not working correctly. It seems to load bit freezes and I can not play the game. My daughter loves this game and trying to get it up and running.  Any assistance will be nice.

Hey guys, first I want to say that C64 is way before my time and I am completely clueless about anything to do with it. It's been a while since I added a new system so I thought I'd give this one a shot. So far I am not having any luck. I've got WinVICE installed and I tweaked the settings per the module notes. I also have the Commodore 64.ini in the correct directory, that is all good, but I am really having trouble in the controls department. Attached are a few pics of my settings. I made an Xpadder profile using the settings that giga posted. I configured keyset A as shown, with "Enter" as the fire button and arrow keys for directionals and keyset B with "home" for fire and wsad for directionals. In joystick settings I have "enable joy keys" selected. 

I know some of this is incorrect because I tried 1942 as a test and couldn't get past the cheats menu (enter wouldn't respond). I've read that the joystick keys can't be the same as any of the keyboard keys so I'm guessing I can't use enter as fire for keyset A however I was just using giga settings for Xpadder. I need some clarification here. With that in mind though, I changed the keyset A mapping and made fire G. After answering the cheat questions I had to press enter on the keyboard but then I was able to successfully play the game. So "G" replaced Enter and I am able to fire while Space does the loop in 1942. 

So then, Is gigas profile meant to be configure as "Set 2" in Xpadder? I can't image this is the case since "space" is used for the loop in 1942. Also, how would I know what keys are required for games that use more than just directionals and a fire button? And are you guys still launching keyboard/joystick games with different instances of the emulator?

I configured keyset A as shown, with "Enter" as the fire button and arrow keys for directionals and keyset B with "home" for fire and wsad for directionals. In joystick settings I have "enable joy keys" selected. 

I know some of this is incorrect because I tried 1942 as a test and couldn't get past the cheats menu (enter wouldn't respond). I've read that the joystick keys can't be the same as any of the keyboard keys so I'm guessing I can't use enter as fire for keyset A however I was just using giga settings for Xpadder. I need some clarification here. With that in mind though, I changed the keyset A mapping and made fire G. After answering the cheat questions I had to press enter on the keyboard but then I was able to successfully play the game. So "G" replaced Enter and I am able to fire while Space does the loop in 1942. 

So then, Is gigas profile meant to be configure as "Set 2" in Xpadder? I can't image this is the case since "space" is used for the loop in 1942. Also, how would I know what keys are required for games that use more than just directionals and a fire button? And are you guys still launching keyboard/joystick games with different instances of the emulator? 

 

I've recently set this up on my cab which is now using JoyToKey instead of Xpadder but  I configured it the same with the default profile.

What I found and this may  be in the module notes or somewhere, is that you can only set one keyset, setting both messes it up especially if the controls need to be switched to the other port. So I would just set the keyset B.

I'm not sure what to suggest to someone who has no nostalgia for a system or doesn't remember games they played. It's OK with consoles as the controls are the same but the C64 controls can be quite painful, but I've not set up enough to noticed big differences in controls. It's OK if the game had one button and directions but then some also have menu keys to press as well. For Raid Over Moscow I had to set the C64 Function keys and needed a Shift button on the cab.

So what do you do if you don't know the controls as some games don't tell you? The best way is to download the C64 manuals pack and perhaps use the pause function in RL to look it up. I also just rely on my tiny Rii i8+ keyboard as it's a lot less hassle than trying to remember whats mapped to what. I could also create a controller layout graphic the add to a fade screen for each game.

Hi giga, thans for taking the time. The module actually says to set both as seen here: 

"Default Joyport setting for C64 requires that you configure "Keyset A" as the default for JoyPort 1 and "Keyset B" as the default for JoyPort 2.  This allows the module to use the ini settings and set the default joystick to Player 1 at startup."

I will configure it per your suggestion, did you mean to say that I should only configure keyset A? (you said keyset "B") Just to clarify, if I use your xpadder layout, should I configure the keyset as arrows for directionals and enter for fire? Enter was giving me issues if set as fire.

Going by what you have said and the module notes you should continue to use both key sets. I have mine set to use the Game pad ( My Ultrasticks) and if I set them the module was resetting them to Key set A & B.

As for my Xpadder profile, that was just a guide to show which keys may be useful to set up, if you have found different keys that's great.

Got it, thank you. Regarding media, I went to grab the Pause artwork over at Emumovies  /_RocketLauncher Media Submissions/dougan78/ and there are only 87 folders, is that correct are are there more manuals somewhere else?

Does anyone have a list of all of the games that use Port 1, Port 2 and Keyboard? (or an easy way to generate one) The one dougan posted before has about 1900 games but the XML in his ftp has about 2400 games. Also wanted to point out that on his list 720 (USA) is under Port 1 but on the Commodore 64.ini it is set to Port 2.

If you use rocket launcher it is already handled for you:  RocketLauncher\Modules\WinVICE\Commodore 64 (Example).ini already has all the default ports listed and sets winvice to the correct port per game.  Sorry for the late reply.  Good luck!
