I keep seeing crc questions coming up every so often. Can someone tell me why this is important to some people? I mean I've been checking crc, sha and md5 for my ps2 collection as well. But that is just for my own verification. Is there something HS related that relies on crcs?

Hi All.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but this ST remains the last of my projects I need to do and by Christ its doing my head in.

Can someone tell me how its set up on HS? Difficult to find any tutorials for this one. Or workable packs frankly.

I had steem, I had all set up in RL this morning, the one (one lol) game I want the ST for audited fine (after a right old struggle with the XML) but the game would fail to test launch as it was crying out for a different version of the TOS, the 206. So I downloaded that instead but it still cries out for the 206.

The 206 seems to have taken me a step back. At least the game was running in Steem outside RL earlier, now it wont even do that.

I see Retroarch is mentioned above. Is that far easier?

Many thanks

I wouldn't mind a mini tutorial myself.

Retroarch is already on my system for the Genesis but.... do I assume I have to do something with the STs A and/or B drive set up first? I can see how you bring the STs screen up in Steem, how do you do it in Retroarch?

I've set this up in a similar manner to the Genesis  in RL and got a game audited but test launching that game firstly brings up a fatal 'Retroarch .exe has stopped working' error and then upon trying a second time it brings up an error asking that I ensure I have the correct version of Retroarch. I don't know if the first error means there is nothing to grab hold of when I try a second time.

I'm trying to avoid installing a different version of Retroarch now I have Genesis running fine.

Can anyone advise me where i'm going wrong?

After having a tinker, I notice I can run the game with a TOS100 image in the steem but when I channel the game through RL it seems to be looking for but failing to find TOS206 image.

Yet if I set up Steem with the TOS206 image the game will not play in Steem.

Neither image choice works through RL.

Has anyone any ideas?

Hey Hawkeye, I have some time tonight, I will see what I can do to help out.  Can you send me a link to the image you are having issues with so I can work with exactly what you have?

Well I am sorry I offered to help.  This is crazy.  I'd stick with hatari.

To clarify I meant setting this up is crazy.  Meaning this was a mistake trying to get this to work, though i understand the confusion below.  Sorry about that.

Sorry Ad, im in the UK.  You offered help at bedtime. I'm only reading your offer now 9 hours later.

Well, the image works with a game  to a degree.  it works in Steem. The TOS100.IMG. Its just it wont work through RL. It tries to find the TOS206.IMG.

If I set up Steem with the 206.img in mind then the game wont play in Steem at all and still wont play in RL.

Now I do notice that the error message is 'cannot find the 206 in Atari ST/TOS....' Now there IS no TOS folder in the Atari ST folder. Or is the TOS folder a hidden folder anyway?

Also notice these TOS's are downloaded with UK or US in the description yet the error message cries out for TOS.img. Not including UK or US in the description. Is that significant?

I went the retroarch route with 0 success.  Using the Hatari core, I got a game from a very common emulation distribution site.  Burger Time to be exact.  I extracted the game just in case.  I then tried to launch the game through the normal retroarch process.  Load core>load content>etc.  As soon as I selected the game, whether zipped or not, the program would crash completely.  No error, just dead.  I got to looking and found that like you say, I would need a TOS img.  For retroarch, using a sum check I figure out that it was specifically looking for TOS102us.img.  I found that image, renamed it to TOS.img and placed it in the system folder of retroarch.  Same thing, crash completely.  I spent a good 4 hours last night trying different image files, different roms from different sites, watching youtube vidoes... and ultimately I figured that it must not work with retroarch because everyone says to just use the freestanding hatari emulator.

My comment about being sorry I offered did not reflect on you not being around, I meant, it is too difficult for me to figure out, I spent way too much time looking into it and had nothing to show for it.  I am sorry.

Don't put it in system folder. Put in root emu folder

Cor. Burger Time. Good choice. Far better than... Sigh Star Trek - The Rebel Universe which is what all this wasting of my time is over. It's rubbish but its just part of my childhood so I've got to have it. Or rather I can't have this as the one game missing in  Hyperspin. Or seemingly Hyperpie.

Ok. So I shall follow a logical path.  So RL knows to look for, but is failing to find, TOS206.img. How does it know of a TOS206.img exisiting to find in the first place. What is telling it to look for a 206? I cannot see a script anywhere to fiddle about inside.

Steems not begging for a 206. It loads up a blocky Nimoy just find with a 100.

This better work but at the same time, better not.  Would be mad if that is the mistake I was making...

I will look into the RL module for Steem and see what I can figure out on that image.  Though I think you should be able to rename the image and put it where it goes.  Here is to hoping.
