3DO, seriously why?

I'm looking for reasons to keep my 3DO wheel.

Previously the version of Road Rash I had on it was more than enough, but I've since realized that same version is available on Sega Saturn, which renders the 3DO version pointless in my eyes.

Are there any REAL games on this system? As in, not FMV 'experiences' and other novelty stuff like Jurassic Park interactive?

Lucienne's Quest was the only example I could find....

I'm talking exclusives.

Platformers, FPS, Adventure, RPG, Racing, Action, etc.

You know, real games. But only exclusives.

Unless you're strapped for space, I'd set up all systems/emulators and make a couple of different Main Menu xmls.

 

something like:

1 with only what you play

1 with everything you think a setup should have

1 with everything that looks good for displaying purposes

1 with everything, because....

 

of course if you use the main menu xml switcher thingy you can go wild with, only consoles, only arcade, only Nintendo, only ...., etc.

Not really but the only game I really play is street fighter 2 turbo I don't think there is a better version.

I don't know how to answer your "Why 3DO?" question, I read a "Why Saturn?" question these days and I kinda got offended by that question, lol.

 

But, well, I don't have a 3DO wheel in my HS setup, nor Atari Jaguar, etc.

 

The best answer would be: Put everything you find is essencial to you, things you will miss if they aren't there, if you'll miss a version of that console you played or wanted to play, just add, if the answer is that you won't miss that at all, so why bother?

Wow....3do was one of my "crown" systems. I bought one when they first came out. (Ashamed to say what I paid for it) Love quite a few games on the system....Twisted the game show.....greatest party game ever... Honestly I wish it would have survived the console wars. I was looking forward to the M2......memories.

I guess it really comes down to what you like to play. To me.... The commodore 64 , Apple II, Amiga etc are not right for my build....but I am sure that there are people that loved those systems and will try to fit them into thier build. It comes down to personal preference.

The very first Need for Speed that was far better than most that came after.

That hack'n slash game with Kirk Cameron was really good.

Supreme Warrior... God I loved that game.

Monster Manor (I still hear that music in my head sometimes)

FIFA on 3D0 was a showpiece

We even played the shit out of the racing game it came with.

For a while I too thought the 3do version of NFS was the best to be had. I've since got the exodos set going and the SE version there is great! Dos is not to good for cabs though so I suppose the 3do is best option for them.

Well I never had a 3DO as a kid. I touched one once in a Circuit City, but I don't think that counts... lol I just don't know where to start and it seems like FMV garbage aside everything is on other more well-known platforms.

Regarding it's version of Street Fighter though...

I just got a copy of Super Street Fighter 2X in English for the Dreamcast. about an hour and a half ago lol. So there is most definitely a better version out there.

I remember playing SS2T on 3do with 6 button pad and thinking "wow", It was some months before the release of playstation . I dont' consider it because there is mame and moreover the 3do version of ssf2t is considered "inferior" to many other ports. For the same reason i don't consider another good neo geo port, samurai showdown.

In 1993 3do was a terrific machine, and its library is quite decent too as there are some interesting exclusives and "superior" version. The only problem is... well, the console just costed too freaking much and it was released with a very bad timings, with the more powerful saturn and playstation just around the corner.

Star control 2 was released also on ms-dos, as far as I've read there is not a clear winner between ms-dos and 3do version. I think there is a more modern window port, i never really liked the game

I know that is completely back-asswards lol it's just my preferences.

Return Fire (I'll have to look it up)
Immercenary (I saw the game-snap and it looked awful, but you say it's good? I'm more inclined to listen to your guys' suggestions lol)
Deathkeep & Slayer are the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons ones right? I was actually just looking at those a minute ago, seems kind of interesting.

Killing Time (I'll have to look it up)

I'm discounting Road Rash (It's on Sega CD and Sega Saturn, and I can't imagine the 3DO version is better than the Saturn one)
As well as wolfenstein, because I would just play Wolfendoom in Zdoom or something to that effect for that one (Zdoom has completely ruined vanilla for me)
Also FIFA, because I just don't really play sports games. (Few few exceptions like NBA jam of course)

Honestly a week or two ago I would have been wondering why that system too (It's hard for me to discount sega anyway, but still) As again, I never had one and we got ****-all in the US. No real Sonic Game.. yadda yadda.

But I started going through the library and I am BLOWN away by some of these games. Mostly Fighters (Big 2D fighter fan)

I just played Elevator Action returns and was in SHOCK at how much fun they made that dink game. Could not believe it.

Street Fighter Collection (Disc 1) has SSF2 and SSF2T, the saturn version is amazing, it's perfect actually, you should check it out as well.

The second Disc houses SFZ2 Gold or SFA2 Gold which plays perfect plus all the extras only a console could add.

Road rash's 3do is generally considered superior, moreover 4do emulator has an "overclock 3do cpu" feature that makes the framerate of need for speed and road rash MUCH better (especially NFS has some framerate problems on stock 3do).

I actually just setup street fighter alpha 2 gold in my system made some nifty box art too. It's over in the artwork forum if you're interested.

just fyi the version for Dreamcast, the English one was listed as a prototype because the localization was cancelled but I didn't notice anything that wasn't translated. *cough* prototopia *cough cough*

I keep it for Space Ace & Dragon's Lair... I had the american laser games but they kinda sucked compared to the arcade versions but Space Ace & Dragon's Lair seemed worth keeping.. I should add those are the only games I have on my 3DO wheel

I will have to go with this comment too. Those games are great memories. I even remember a fighting game, set in the old china, with 4 discs. I don't remember the name sadly. Killing time is another great one as mentioned here. Well, I don't know your taste but I don't see why not keeping this wheel in our collection.

Supreme Warrior was multi-disc. Probably the only FmV game I've ever loved. It was so satisfying to be good at. It and Dragons Lair are the only games like that I've ever been able to eventually beat without dying.

Also dont forget my favorite fmv game of all times....braindead 13. (Also on ps1 and saturn) also if you really want a song to stick in your head (20 years later) the game is called starfighter....the song is called "death by stereo"
