xALPHAxOMEGAx Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 It sounds to me,that people are trying to make Hyperspin more attractive,to incourage new members. The lack of Development on the core system and the new Kid on the block,LB/BB,seems to have some people worried. Yes,I know there has been a lot of hard work, going on in the background,by a lot of dedicated members, with lots of artwork and the Data Bases being updated, but Hyperspin is still a beast to set up and keep updated. If Hyperspin was still in Development and was a lot easier to get setup, off the bat,a lot more people would be setting up their own systems and not forced to go down the road of buying Dodgy Hard-drives off the net or looking at more update front ends. I am sorry if I've effended anyone, this post is not meant to, as I said, there is still a lot of Hard work going on behind the scenes. im not "trying to make Hyperspin more attractive,to incourage new members" my goal is to get more artwork made. i dont care what front end people choose to use at the end of the day i like the community alot of cool people here with some skills no offense taken. -Your Friendly Neighborhood Scrub HyperSpin Community United HyperSpin United Spreadsheet xALPHAxOMEGAx Universal Theme "DarkSide" (W.I.P) on hold or discontinued idk Vector Logos, Consoles, Controllers, Handhelds Project
xALPHAxOMEGAx Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 The hyperspin project was something that the newer members might not be familiar with. People could work on anything they wanted. A lot of stuff got finished, but the idea was to not release anything until a system was 100% finished. This resulted in years of work never being released. As far as I know, nothing from that project has ever been released to the public. yeah me and JSinn release things as they are finished example the GameCube Boxes unless JSinn says differently my goal with the boxes is to get him enough artwork for him to make spinning boxes for as many systems as he can because that's what i like -Your Friendly Neighborhood Scrub HyperSpin Community United HyperSpin United Spreadsheet xALPHAxOMEGAx Universal Theme "DarkSide" (W.I.P) on hold or discontinued idk Vector Logos, Consoles, Controllers, Handhelds Project

This statement could'nt be further from the truth for me for example what would i make out of new members its not like any of us here helping get payed heck im not even platinum so i dont even have ftp access for me this is more about getting our own setups complete as possible while sharing what we do to help others get a complete as possible setup but that's just my 2 cents.

SeanDyer87 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Ok so me and Omega have been hard at work collecting Wii box scans/covers since last night and i got to say we went in to beast mode a bit we ended up collecting 960 HQ box scans so far weve done all we can for one night now I think i need to relax for a bit and just browse the forum for a bit im starting to feel the tiredness kickining now after being awake for about 30 hours so far but yh just wanted to give everybody an update

Styphelus Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Here is an example of something done for the hyperspin project that never got released: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/2045-snes-3d-box-art-pack/page-2#entry239907 I would rather not see this again. I asked some people to check the vault for some 2D artwork that was used for some projects and that stuff is not there either. Apparently they had their own FTP. Wether people want to use hyperspin or lunchbox, art work is artwork and can be used for both. Retro FE is looking good as well and makes use of the same artwork. This will be a project for the FE community in general, not just Hyperspin. The focus should be on getting good 2D art work and create wheels for systems that actually need them. Creating 3D boxes is easy once you have good 2D covers. I personally like 2D boxes over 3D ones better but that's just personal preference.
JayC Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I like teamwork. That's why I started HyperVault...and to get the stuff being made accessible even if it isn't 100% done. That's why we post everything we make openly in threads that people can download and then release a pack when done. I think this has worked great so far and many sets have been released thanks to the vault. FTP isn't a good idea as previously stated.

Styphelus Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Yeah, but with the vault, you can only have access to certain sections of it. I previously asked for DOS and ZX Spectrum so I'm limited to those. Now if lets say I have high res Sega 32X covers or if I cleaned up all the flyers for AAE, or added additional covers to the SNES, or created some wheels for the PC-Engine, how do i share those? It's small stuff but it all adds up in the end. I'm not going to create a thread and post them in the forums and I'm not going to upload bits and pieces either. We need a place that is open to everyone, where everyone can contributes bits and pieces of what we have. The other issue is that not knowing what is the vault can waste tons of time. I wanted to start making some PC-Engine wheels. I have to look for all the artwork first and let me tell you, it's hard to find. For all I know, the vault could have a nice collection of PC-Engine covers already but how do I know that if I can't access that particular section?

Someone can correct me if im wrong but I believe you can request/get access to more if your contributing to them I could be wrong tho so someone else should confirm this as it stands I currently only have access to GameCube but as far as I know if I was to start contributing to another system I could also then get access to the vault for that system just by requesting like I did for the Wii.
xALPHAxOMEGAx Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 we could make a drop box in the vault a shared folder that can be accessed just like the ftp you make a folder with your name on it and drop it in? and some one sorts it the vault isnt mine my only concern with it being open to the world is people being trolls. the trolls are real and correct me if im wrong but i think JSinn is a main admin of the vault. and hes on at least once a day from my experience of talking to him so he could handle the whole sharing thing. i only ever share specific folders with people im working on something with because that's all i feel comfortable doing its not mine -Your Friendly Neighborhood Scrub HyperSpin Community United HyperSpin United Spreadsheet xALPHAxOMEGAx Universal Theme "DarkSide" (W.I.P) on hold or discontinued idk Vector Logos, Consoles, Controllers, Handhelds Project
Styphelus Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 You are correct, but I don't want to be asking for access to contribute bits and pieces. I'm unusually all over the place. If i want to play a game and I don't have a wheel, I'll make a wheel for it. If it's missing cover art, I'll make cover art, but it's a thing here and there. I'll make a few and move on to something else. In the ends, if everyone does the same, it adds up quickly.

I just ask jayc when I need access to something and presto I got it. Not a big deal. Due to the number of files, systems, etc sharing with "everyone" the wip stuff is not a great idea imho. These file sharing apps have their limits and too many people with read/write proves to be problematic imho. yeah i love the vault. its a step in the right direction
adamg Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 The following assumes we are going for completion: In my experience every project needs an end goal. HyperSpin media seems to be all over the place in regards to that goal. If I could presume an end goal, I would say that we want the following for each system: 1. Main Menu Wheel Art 2. Main Menu Theme 3. System specific Wheel Art 4. HQ 2D box art 5. System specific Game Themes 6. HQ 3D box art 7. Rotating 3D box art If I missed anything please let me know. This is just a guess due to what I would look for in making a project like this work. As it stands, I have no idea where any of this stuff is, where I can find progress on any of these things, or even who I could talk to about any of that information. I see that Jay runs the vault. I knew about the vault but knew very little about it. It seems like a great idea. We just need to come up with a way that can show the progess of all of that information in an easy to find place that literally anyone can see. We need a project manager that would run this whole thing. I do project management at my work so I can help a little in that regard if needed. I do not know that I have the time to devote to being a lead but I can definitely offer solutions as to what we could do to curate this project. If I assume that I am correct about what one might want in regards to media (see list above), we should prioritise each thing, complete everything in that category and make it useable for the next. This creates work flow that is easy to manage. 2D Box art could be used for 3d for instance. This also creates smaller packages to be released so hopefully a quicker turn over. I have supposed a priority for each section as seen above. A sample suggestion might be the following: 1. Appoint a Project Lead, I would assume that Alpha or Jay might be interested. 2. Create a work flow for each system, the provided might be a place to start 3. Create a database of what is availible for each system, I like the way the audit progams do it honestly. If possible create a google docs spreadsheet for each system and create an audit like representation of what we have. I can do this later if needed. 4. Much like what is being done in the database section, create a sub-forum for media that is set up on a system specific basis. For instance, Nintendo Entertainment System>System Discussion|Main Menu|Wheel Art|Box Art|Themes 5. Appoint section leaders for systems, ideally for things that they care about 6. Create dropboxes or mega or ftp or whatever so that everyone can offer the service of finding assets and dropping them in a centralized location. This is for media creators to use. With this project layout we could manage databases and media for those databases easily. The spreedsheets would let everyone know what is complete, what is being worked on and who to ask about the work being done. It would need an active member to lead the project and active members to head each section. It would also take good dialogue between everyone involved. And lastly, assume that this could be used for any front end. This could allow us to get help from other front ends.
SeanDyer87 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 If possible create a google docs spreadsheet for each system and create an audit like representation of what we have. I can do this later if needed. This is actually what me and Alpha have been doing each time we work together
adamg Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 This is actually what me and Alpha have been doing each time we work together That is perfect, if we want to involve more people it would need to be accessible to everyone to see where everyone is. Outside of this thread how would I know that you two were working on anything?
JayC Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Yep...that's pretty much how we do it in the vault overall. Every system has a spreadsheet with all the games and a column for every kind of media for said system. When someone add or make a piece of art they edit the spreadsheet accordingly...so it basically looks just luke Hypert00ls for instance. Regarding access to the vault...I get a lot of requests for access and our basic guidelines is that you gain access to the systems you would like to contribute to. The thing is, a lot of the people requesting access are more interested in just looking what they can find i ln the vault than actually contributing. I have also given out access to the whole vault to certain people wanting to contribute here and there, so styphelus I can hook you ap with the whole wip folder if you'd like. To keep everything tidy and in working order I think this is the best way to do it. I have made spreadsheets for most systems and sort what we have but it takes up very much of my time and I can only do so much per day. So if someone else wants to help organizing and keeping track just tell me. We actually have a dropbox kind of thing already called "upload here" but no one really uses it and the biggest issue is that someone with admin rights has to sort it and that takes tim.
thatman84 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 That is perfect, if we want to involve more people it would need to be accessible to everyone to see where everyone is. Outside of this thread how would I know that you two were working on anything? Now that is a very hard thing for us to achieve without the help of hyperspin admin! So I like there being a semi structured view to this project, I now see that fully structured will put people off from the comment above about people wanting to work on their preferred project. Can anyone(Jay C) shed any light on if this will affect the work of Hypervault or duplicate it. That would be pointless. I don't know the best way to organise the spreadsheet, storage issues I will leave that to others, but I have a couple of IDEAS (good or bad you lot decide) for how to keep this going and help make this thread not be missed and continue. 1. Omega maybe you could update the 1st post regularly with what projects are on and who is doing them. May be chuck up the Wii one soon to kick it off. Sort the rest as we go. 2. I would love to see a WIP forum all in one place they are there but there are so many in so many places. Could this be requested/format talked about. A global overview of Hyperspin/artwork projects and who is doing them. While writing this just seen Jay C's post maybe making the spreadsheets more available would be good for keeping watchers in the loop of how things are progressing.
