adamg Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I am great at organizing things. I am good at delagting. I am not so good with art but am a perfectionist so even with my limited MSPaint, I do alright. I do not have photoshop and would rather work in paint than GIMP so there is that I have tried themes but as you may have noticed, never released anyting because I really need to figure those out. Long of the short, I am willing to help but I am currently trying to put together an arcade building business so that is taking a good deal of my time (more to follow on this).

Why don't we try to tackle one system at a time and pour all resources into it. Maybe start with something like the Famicom or Disk System. Popular systems in desperate need of artwork. PSP and DS also need work. Some can collect artwork wile some create covers and some cut out wheels. However we shouldn't be going overboard and try to complete every single tiny detail. A wheel pack and a cover pack should be enough to move on to the next system.

32assassin Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 It sounds to me,that people are trying to make Hyperspin more attractive,to incourage new members. The lack of Development on the core system and the new Kid on the block,LB/BB,seems to have some people worried. Yes,I know there has been a lot of hard work, going on in the background,by a lot of dedicated members, with lots of artwork and the Data Bases being updated, but Hyperspin is still a beast to set up and keep updated. If Hyperspin was still in Development and was a lot easier to get setup, off the bat,a lot more people would be setting up their own systems and not forced to go down the road of buying Dodgy Hard-drives off the net or looking at more update front ends. I am sorry if I've effended anyone, this post is not meant to, as I said, there is still a lot of Hard work going on behind the scenes. LOL, some of us are more than happy with the performance and set up of the current state of HS. Would I like to see some features added to Hyperspin? WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just because Hyperspin is not undated every other week, month or year. It does not mean its dead. Hyepspin consists of many components. Last I checked their is always an updated to one of those components; every other week, if not days. Most people that buy HD are the type of people who like to take shortcuts, it docent matter how easy HS is to set up, they will always buy a HD because they don't want to spend any time configuring their Set up. a YouTube video of some who just bought a drive posted on my feed. And his reaction was, "I paid $350 for a drive, Hyperspin should work out of the box". He stated: Don't send links on how to fix this Don't send videos on how to fix this. I don't want to watch a 1 hour video to fix 1 system (needing to spend 90 hours to fix his 90 system drive)
thatman84 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 i am limited on skills and time with other projects but can do 3-4hrs a week. Omega i now have discord Skills Formatting/Writing (this is not an example!!) Monkey Tasks!!! (resizing, renaming things like that) Research Collecting maybe not sure Programs i have fotosizer flash decompiler dons tools gimp (Adobe CS6, not yet installed) Example of the sort of thing i do http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/25159-android-working-systems-list/ What Databases are we going to be working to?? (I think everything we can find then filter it down to hyperspin list, this way it can help the whole community in and outside of hyperspin) Certain levels of detail should be upheld otherwise whats the point. Gotta do things kinda properly without getting bogged down on something tiny. I think the set should cover things that are missing. There are a few full main menu wheels but maybe an update/uniform style is not a bad idea FYI My order would be 0. Databases 1. Box Art 2D+3D 2. Cart Art 2D+3D 3. Wheel Art 4. Main Menu wheel 5. Main Menu Theme 6. System Default Theme ***Move on to next system**** 7. Game Themes (to big to tackle in one hit, not essential) Alot of this stuff is happening so theres no point duplicating. adamg Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I agree Styphelus. The problem you get into is that the Famicom and Disk System may not be someone's favorite system. They may not want to work on it. I think that would play into the united goal. We would need to figure out what our short term and long term goals were. We would also need to figure out if anyone would be willing to just knock things out like you detailed instead of working on things they wanted to.

JayC Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 The spreadsheets can be made public (by link) to everyone but need to stay as read only (for the link) and write for those who actually work on them. And why shouldn't HyperVault be open for all? Because, the only point of HyperVault is to collaborate on artwork for systems, not for sharing it with everyone...we have the download section and HyperSync/HyperBase Live for that. There isn't anything in the vault for the "normal" hyperspin user as it's mainly just source artwork and the sets being worked on. As soon as a set is done it's uploaded to the download section, so why would anyone need to download it from the vault? The problem with taking on one system at a time is that not everyone are interested in working on certain systems...I know many don't mind working on systems they won't even use them selves (including me) but most are just interested in finishing what they are missing at the moment, so I still think it should be a choice by the contributor what he/she works on. On the note that we could have labels like "wheel maker" "box cleaner" "artwork gatherer", it works pretty good at least for a while but I know by doing it that I can get pretty bored with a similar task all the time. I really don't have a good solution on how to tackle this but I'm willing to try whatever system you guys come up with.
xALPHAxOMEGAx Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 i made this Spreadsheet where we can keep track of completed things https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tYF7wuatLtWqyspglUHAtelhu_7Enlr3OJdU5d8fFAE/edit?usp=sharing i just figured out that i can have a spreadsheet of all the systems and their progress by i can make the system name a clickable link to its own spreadsheet and its view only. but if you have edit rights on your gmail when it takes you to the new spreadsheet youll have edit rights. so its a controll thing people can see all the spread sheets but they cant edit them :] i set up the nintendo wii -Your Friendly Neighborhood Scrub HyperSpin Community United HyperSpin United Spreadsheet xALPHAxOMEGAx Universal Theme "DarkSide" (W.I.P) on hold or discontinued idk Vector Logos, Consoles, Controllers, Handhelds Project

Black Hazor Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Now that i finished reading all this I think a lot of good Ideas are here that need to be collected...so here is what ive got so far: - many members want to work on a system they like but wont contribute to other systems - we need a freely accessible spreadsheet for all systems (and Main Menu) with all the games in it (default theme, Videos, Wheelart, Boxes 2D+3D, Cart/CD/DVD/etc, Themes (dont think they are this important - my opinion)) - HyperVault is really nice for storing the uncomplete stuff and source art (Im one of the guys that have access to all of the WIP Section and really there isnt all that useful (final) stuff in there...) - we need someone who wants to be the Project Manager - we need to find out who has what skills - a new thread where u can see all the progress - who has admin rights for the vault and the spreadsheets - where to ask to get access - also how it is decided who can join the vault/spreadsheets with write permissions and who cant? Hope thats it and i havent missed anything. Also put down some stuff i thought about too.
adamg Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I misunderstood the purpose of the vault. Does that mean that the vault houses assets instead of completed works? i made this Spreadsheet where we can keep track of completed things https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tYF7wuatLtWqyspglUHAtelhu_7Enlr3OJdU5d8fFAE/edit?usp=sharing That is what I was thinking, just have not had time to make it today. To begin with we should probably stick to the official databases as they stand. I will setup all officially supported systems when I get home and sync media that I do not have. This should give a baseline of what is available though HyperSync. I will run it through HyperT00ls and see what all we are missing. Then I will scour the downloads to see what else is available. Looks like i need another external hard drive just for media... Does media that is put in the download section get added to HyperSync? Does anyone know that process?

JSinn Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Whoa! I'm surprised how much we stirred up, normally threads similar to this generally get passed by. I'm still catching up and I'll try to answer some of these questions the best I can. How do you propose this gets done? Currently we have the hypervault. The problem with it is that you need to request permission to access a certain system, meaning that if you get bored and want to work on something else, you can't. Could we open up the FTP again? That way people can freely contribute whatever bit they like. Have a folder for raw artwork, one for cleaned up artwork and one for approved artwork. People can just contribute their findings or their finished product. No one needs to fell like theymust work on one thing full time. By the way, there is a complete wheel for the gamecube already. Does it need to be redone again? Systems like the Famicom, PC-Engine and MSX are in desperate need of wheel work. We're mainly asking if anyone would want to help out anyway they can. (I wasn't really expecting many to step-up) The FTP turned into a major mess. (even my own folder got moved several times) Yep, I know there is a GC wheel set. (you can see them in every one of my Gamecube box test videos) The Default set that I put in the Download section. The problem that I have with the set is that there are a lot of wrong wheels in that set. That makes the OCD part of brain say it doesn't uphold to the high standards that HS should have. 007 - From Russia with Love (USA) = one example of that from the top of my head. Not to mention the tons of poorly cut wheels, wheels with stray pixels and many are not sized right. I do know that Sub-Zero was talking about doing a HQ set, but I could be wrong. BTW - you should be added to the entire Vault now and you'll see that there's really not much in there |Visit my [YouTube] channel || My projects - [Downloads] || GameCube HQ Disc Project || GameCube HQ Disc Progress || HyperSpin United Spreadsheet |
JSinn Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Im not sure if theyre is another good alternative other than the HyperVault the problem with your idea about the FTP it would mean people (myself included) would not be able to contribute due to not being Platinum members which would then restrict the amount of people able to help with things. The biggest problem with a FTP solution and letting people upload whatever they want is that it quickly becomes a gigantic mess with unnecessary materials or accidentally misplaced things. Who's going to take the time to sort it out? Look at our own FTP for an example. I would help out but not many/any skills just yet. Boring repetitive tasks I can do. Do things really get locked away or do they just never get completed and fizzled out with knowing able to access the files? My thoughts would be to have a couple of gatekeepers. EVERYONE can upload what they have to a place and then a couple of authorities can pick out what's needed. Put that in a locked space for those with the ability to sort it and use. Not a fan of completely open source myself. Quality has to be controlled and mistakes minimised. Oh a ordered list of projects then ONLY work on ONE until it's done. People can chip in when a project they like hits the top of the list. That's the main reason for the this topic, many people can help out and not even know it. Things are locked in there, usually to be picked up later on, but are not inaccessible. (my GameBoy project is still there for me to work on when I feel like going back to it) I agree with the Quality, it's the reason we have Media Approvers - to have a high standard of quality. |Visit my [YouTube] channel || My projects - [Downloads] || GameCube HQ Disc Project || GameCube HQ Disc Progress || HyperSpin United Spreadsheet |
JSinn Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Just a heads up: I'm going through my databases today and tomorrow and will be posting them in the Databases section of the forum. They have all the unnecessary tags and dupes removed where the ones on HyperList currently don't. So that should make your lives easier for a few systems where they're messed up (hopefully) Thanks! Yeah the XMLs are the backbone of our whole media system, and we are nowhere without good databases. That's probably another reason I'm in GameCube-land atm, it has a decent XML to start with. |Visit my [YouTube] channel || My projects - [Downloads] || GameCube HQ Disc Project || GameCube HQ Disc Progress || HyperSpin United Spreadsheet |
