jaZz_KCS Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Checked out the HD Genesis theme on a 55 inch. I have to go clean the screen now because I blew my pants. The 'crapping my pants in some sorts'-theme seems to be stronger with this forum than others me thinks.
Unknown50862 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 So I've tested the flash formatted themes on my low-end build and the results are pretty good. Just to give you a benchmark, my system is running on an Atom and can almost barely run some Nintendo 64 games. As expected Gibbawho's animated version proved too much. It looked amazing once loaded, but the transitions were extremely choppy. Styphelus' version was much better, but still the lag was slightly noticeable. I would say it is definitely passable, especially given the improved visuals. The non-flash version was obviously the smoothest, but not enough to make a huge difference. Odd thing though, I tried toning down Gibbawho's theme by swapping out the background for the stationary version and adjusting the timings/animations of the artwork and while it did load better, it still didn't match Styphelus'. Not sure why, even considering all of Styphelus' themes are larger in size too. The artwork for the Genesis theme seems a bit bigger, so maybe that was the cause. Well yeah, the Intel Atom is very low end (I believe 1.6 Ghz Eco-Processor from 2008 / One of the first Netbook processors if I remember right). With their integrated Intel Gma 945/950 they should be able to run the unanimated versions of the themes with some small expected hiccups here n there when transitions come in. My old Atom was able to emulate everything up too SNES, N64 prooved to be too demanding back then. Also the Atom can't run accurate emulators like higan properly, older mor inaccurate but speedier emu's like snes9x and zsnes had no problems though. The Atom started to go to its knees when trying to emulate NeoGeo and N64 but had no problem in emulating the PSX fine enough. When it comes to a frontend like HS, I witnessed the Atom to be able to handle even good looking themes like this one without any fancy animations and a slightly lower resolution and Image quality setting done in HyperHQ. With that set to medium or low together with max resolution of 800x600 or 1024x768 it ran/looked rather well. That said, I don't use the Ato anymore even for emulation. It is now still running in the corner of my room solely running a Mumble voicechat server, http-Web-server and other server related stuff 24/7.

" Gibbawhoo increased the size of Sonic for his flash Genesis theme. It's slightly bigger than his original in the PSD. I kept the sizes the exact same he had originally. I overlayed the flash theme with the PSD and noticed that as well. If you overlay mine with the PSD, they will match exactly - I know this - I did it several times just to make sure. By the way, feel free to help creating themes. Not sure if you go my message. I sent it but it doesn't show up on my sent items for some reason. The more people helping the better.
KrillCaz Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Wow, can anyone refer me to the ftp folder to download these? I can't seem to find any of them.

gibbawho Posted January 24, 2014 Author Posted January 24, 2014 Styphelus: I'm getting even better results when i bring the art into flash well above 1080p ... seems to help compensate the slight loss when stretching it. Going to have a fully touched up and complete genesis one tonight or tomorrow (i'm feeling a bit lazy tonight). Got a new, higher res controller pic (with burgundy letters/arrows ) and Remade the logo in vector. Looking pretty slick. Just wish you could use this trick on the video borders it makes my OCD tingle to have that one glaringly low res aspect to it when everything else is so sharp.

Thanks. Oh that's super rad, can't wait to see more. Haven't messed with any of the hyperlaunch art stuff yet. BTW you're fine posting this here. Seems related enough to me. I'm really not up tight about that sort of thing anyway. I'd also love to see loading/pause screens for these eventually if anyone wants to take a shot at that. Maybe we can get a complete cohesive artwork system out of this.

Combined with the resources from the Console Fade Project, they look really nice. I also plan to take the logos from the themes too, since they are much cleaner and to keep things uniform. jaZz_KCS Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Do I see this right, we now have 2 ppl working on themes, 4:3 and 16:9, as well as a person working on bezels AND someone working on loading screens as well? Awesomesauce!

Well to be fair, I'm not doing too much with the loading screens. Right now they are just re-purposing the artwork from the themes, the rest of the details are from the fade project. Although now that we're doing the themes in flash, the artwork can no longer be reused the same way. At some point I'll go through and upload the background and logos in a HyperLaunch friendly format, so that we can use them for these other side projects. I'm also going to start helping Styphelus with the non-animated 16:9 themes, assuming I can figure out this danged Flash. The best part of this project, other than it being amazing, is the fact that Gibbawho did most the initial designs in Photoshop and provided everyone with the PSDs. I don't think this would have turned into the conglomerate that it is without those files. I can't stress how helpful it's been to already have the artwork laid out, separated into their own layers, at a nice resolution. Really man, amazing work! To my knowledge most console modules don't support bezels at the moment. I don't know if there is a current list of modules that them. Your best bet for console bezel support is to use RetroArch for most of your console emulation. It supports a wide range of consoles and it's module is one of the few that support bezels at the moment.
