Those themes will be 4:3 or 16:9 ???

If you are asking about the unified theme project, both. The focus right now is on 16:9, but gibbawho has already mentioned he intendeds to do them all in 4:3 as well. I believe there is already a mostly complete set in 4:3 put together from the original Photoshop files, though it doesn't have gibbawho's finishing touches on it.

Ultimately, the idea is to have 4 versions in the end. An animated and non-animated set, both in 4:3 and 16:9.

Well figured I would throw my hat in the ring as I am doing up artwork for my own setup anyway. What I am working on right now is the PC Game Box covers, which I would assume you already have someone working on. Below are some examples of what I am currently doing. I will probably scrap the 3D Full version as it is a bit to big to fit into Hyperspin nicely and the back artwork for a lot of the indie games needs to be made from scratch, which is to time consuming right now when the PC Games list is literally infinite. But if I have the correct artwork easily accessible I will make the "3D Full" version as well.

Due to the way PC has been going digital delivery for a long time, I will be using a lot of custom artwork and piecing the covers together myself. So don't hate me if I don't use the "Official Cover" for some of the PC games. Plus honestly I like the game covers to actually look decent and not just covered in logos and advertising. In saying that though if I have copies of the official covers I will be using them first and creating alternatives.

Looking good leeperwdup. Great that you're working with the official artwork and then adding custom alt.

The aim of the project should be to create as much of the official artwork as possible, beyond that it would be great to have the freedom of choice and have lots of variations.

Is the dropshadow a part of the artwork or is it purely to display them on the forum? I like it, but would prefer an option without to follow the general convention.

Yer I have already thought of that, creating the batch processing scripts now and that was one of the options I was going to spit out. One with the drop shadow and one without. Those are just quick examples of what I am doing. Right now I am creating the PC Cover templates with vector masks for easy drag and drop placement of the images for the covers that I need to make. Then I'll work on compiling the action scripts to be able to create the 6 different outputs automatically from my initial template. Then time to start creating some awesomeness :)

Outputs will include;

2D Front Cover - No Edits

2D Front Cover - DVD Style

3D Spine+Front

3D Spine+Front+Mirroring

3D Display Back+Spine+Front (If Artwork Allows)

3D Display Back+Spine+Front (If Artwork Allows)

Well I've made the script now that will automatically process my template into 7 different output files (8 Total including the initial template) without requiring any special plug-in, actions or installing anything. Its written in javascript, will prompt you for the input directory, then output directory and then will process all the artwork in your input directory into each of the formats below. Last thing I need is to know are the standard sizes that you guys are using for this project. As the files that I output currently are quite large due to not re-sizing them before saving. I am now trying to only do original covers for the games and custom art for the games that had no digital release or box copies. Please let me know if you don't need these for the Hyperspin Project, as it seems that you want to tackle all the older consoles. If so then did you want me to help with something else? Alternatively if you don't need anymore bodies, just let me know and I will just process the games that I have and move onto another project.

Below are examples of what the current script will output from the initial template. Two are custom covers that I sourced and made for games that did not have a physical release and the other is the original case, cleaned and set in this format. I have done a fair few more already but here are just a few samples.

I've been wondering about joining this project but now I've made my mind.

Are there any databases needed to create? :)

I now have almost 3 free months and I'd love to help the community onwards. You can see all my other XML-work through my profile if you need any convincing.

I have recently made db's for Acorn Electron, Acorn Archimedes and sometime ago I also created XML's for Philips CD-i and Fujitsu FM Towns. All of these XML's are yet to be tested and double-checked but I'm sure they cover something like 95% of the titles released.

pm me if you want to help with databases we will gladly have your help, but you'll need to follow our guidelines when making them. I saw those databases you have been posted and even though they are fairly complete they are all missing quite a few games that would need to be included in order for them to be official. I think you base them on a single rom set (I'm guessing TOSEC) which isn't enough for most of the systems.

Whilst waiting (dunno who the project lead is you might want to pm) I suggest getting a hold of the "lynda com cs 6 photoshop" (cough..tpb) tutorial video dvds. Very handy to quickly skip through watching the parts/chapters you need.

Most of all, with or without these, learn the pen-tool the most important PS tool to learn at any level of artwork involvement in HS related work.

Brolly --- Is there anything that needs assistance other than artwork?

I am not patient enough for photoshop.

I saw the keymapper project which I am considering throwing my hand out for as I have a large amount of downtime on my days in my career.

Is there anything else?

I am still following the project, but just haven't had time to do anything, I might have posted like once in the last month - and the gameboy wheel thread is constantly open in a tab, staring me in the face, mocking me and telling me put some damn effort in and do more. But then I have a nagging wife and 16 month old sucking the life out of me, which is nice of course but finding time for much else is not as possible as it once was.

Not sure if anyones already on it. But I would like to help out with the PS2 project if there is one. Its a hell of a task, but i would like to make this set complete and up to standard. Even if its just the wheels for now, better to be chipping away with it. Then focus on Cases and then onto the discs.

I have got the art that DamnedRegistrations (much thanks) has sorted. Going to go through mine to see whats quality, missing and can be added. Find any more gems hidden away then its the case of finding the leftovers. If anyone has anything they could add, art, databases etc this would be a huge help. Or if anyones already on this be glad to help out... if not going to get stuck in anyways.
