gigapig Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Hey HyperMetal Heads I heard one of mine this morning on Plant Rock, so that has prompted me to ask you fellow thrashers in case I've missed a good one So what is your favorite guitar solo/s? Mine would be UFO - Rock Bottom (The one I heard today) Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb And one some may not have heard, and I love the last bit of guitar in the song. Onslaught - Welcome to Dying. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88iX4kS2r_g

gigapig Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 blackfoot-highway song a legendary guitar solo take a live version if you listen Good choice, I'd never heard that before, so thank you.
snstay Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Hangar 18 from megadeth. The back and forth between mustain and Friedman is the stuff solos are made of.
damageinc86 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Anything by Andreas Kisser, his weird dissonant stuff is really awesome, Arise is some of his best work. Dimebag Darrell. You can't choose just one, but Dimebag really blows me away with how he engages you with simple and flaming fast solos. The way he bends, and squeals, and the little tiny things like stopping and doing a pinch harmonic right in the middle of the solo and shit. Oh there's just too much to mention. He's got so much groove and so much shred at the same time, it's unbelievable. This isn't even a very popular one off this particular album, but it's one of my favorite solos of all time. There's just something about it that gets me every time
Climber Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Hmmmm there are so many guitar solos that i just love but one of my all time favorite solos and bands from canada. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYEmQN0IJyc They are all three amazing artists
xHyperSteve Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Dimebag Darrel-Cemetary Gates Solo Dimebag Darrel-Floods Solo Steve Vai- Die to Live Steve Vai Tender Surrender Pink Floyd/David Gilmour-Time Any of those brother! volumetric Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Kirk Hammett - Shortest straw. He has played more memorable solos (although i dunno about anything post and justice for all), but this one is an absolute beast. Not sure if that's my fav, i'll have to think.

I do like the solo's from Sanitarium and Master of Puppets.
gigapig Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 I feel ashamed to call myself a metal head if I've not heard any Pantera. Luckily there's still time. Thank you for showing me the way
xHyperSteve Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Oh god, Pantera is fucking amazing. I wish I could hear it for the first time all over again. You're in for a wild ride. Be sure to like! Also, subscribe to my YouTube Channel for more videos/HyperSteve https://twitter.com/HyperSteveShow
volumetric Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 If you don't mind going a bit heavier, pretty much all the solos on the Heatwork and Necroticism discs by Carcass are great.
gigapig Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 If you don't mind going a bit heavier, pretty much all the solos on the Heatwork and Necroticism discs by Carcass are great. I'm no stranger to Carcass volumetric, I bought Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious back in 1991 and saw them probably around the same time in some shady club in Oxford. I will never forget it, Bill Steer is another legend. As your a resident of Australia, perhaps you've heard of the Hard-ons who I also saw at Bristol Bierkeller. Before the gig they where in the pub next door watching the cricket. I never realised they reformed in 97.
volumetric Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Many years ago the Hard-ons snuck me into one of their gigs in a drum case as i was underage at the time
gigapig Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 Many years ago the Hard-ons snuck me into one of their gigs in a drum case as i was underage at the time WTF. How did that happened? you knew them? Blackie didn't just snatch you off the street and shove you in the drum case.
volumetric Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 A few school friends and myself went to see them thinking it was an all ages show when it wasn't, i think they saw us moping around outside, realised we were underage and took pity on us. That would've been in like 89-90, long time ago (an overly tall 14yo in a licensed venue, where it was assumed everyone was drinking age? You better believe i got drunk off my ass, hence the vagueness of my recollection)
phulshof Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I'll go for the guitar duel from the movie Crossroads: and the ending:
potts43 Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I'm a rock guitarist when I get the time these days. I love playing surfing with the alien by Joe Satriani. I guess it's my party piece. He's a dude. I have so many influences but Steve Vai & Ry cooder in crossroads were brilliant!
rfancella Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 How about Frank Zappa and Zoot Allures? A couple off the Joes Garage, also stunning. The man was an under-rated legend. Thanks, Ron Code Monkey and all around Command Line geek!If you like what someone has said or done for you, be sure and 'Thank' them. And if they changed your life, send them a Beer!
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Most classic song probably ever made... sometimes banned its so classic. But my fave....
