The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

A new Hyperspin?

Does everyone out there believe that Hyperspin is dead regarding development?

As a door knob. But only the front end portion. All other portions are activily being worked on.

Can we just focus on getting a team together to work on the front end and stop bickering?

There's a team already working on Hyperlunch.

I don't have any programming skills and my graphical design skills are limited but I'm willing to help with anything I can.

Yes, but that's like saying HS doesn't matter and we might as well leave right now, as HL might have originated here, but it's its own separate beast right now. It doesn't need HS as an FE in any way and works just as well with other FEs.

And HS is great but has some major flaws that if not corrected would make HS obsolete as other FEs surpass. I mean, I've got all my eggs in this basket, but there's gonna be an easter where they'll be all over the place and there's no telling where I might find em.

lol, nice miss-spell ;) who's working on HyperLunch? me hungry!

This is a good idea :)

Even if HS 2.0 will ever be I remember BBB saying that 1080p had severe performance hit in flash and that HS 2.0 probably would have been 720p.

Right now there are a lot of third party softwares for hyperspin, basically the only thing needed is a software capable to push artworks , shows videos and send commands to hyperlaunch. Hyperspin is a wonderful base in terms of feature and skinning options, here's my wish list:

1- 16:9 and 16:10 support, up to 1080p

2- 2d coverflow (kodi/xbmc style)

3- A gui to create themes (creating themes whitout hypertheme would take more time and would be more difficult)

4- Search function. Hypersearch is not that bad despise some input problems. I would add a key to search the selected game in all wheels (es you select "golden axe" in mame then press a button to see and launch the porting on various system) and to directly search year, manufacturer, publisher, etc.

5- More artwork layers and the possibility to change the position of every graphic resources in .ini (es in hyperspin you can't move favorites and exit menus)

6- .png and .swf support

7- Various wheel styles (vertical, horizontal, wheel, etc) and the possibility to customize position, zoom and graphic overlay for selected item, etc.

What I would like to see but its' not "vital":

1- 3d support. Like this, for example :P

2- The possibility to automatically add reflex on artworks (like xbmc does)

3. Support for grayscale themes with color overlay (just like in "aeon nox")

I don't have any coding skills but I would be happy to convert my work in progress "Aeon Nox XIII" skin for a new frontend that has hyperspin's spirit :)

That 3D is amazing.

I've hoped for a long time for someone to make a great new, open source frontend the same spirit of XBMC. With an emphasis on skins rather than individual game themes. Or better yet skins with the option to turn on and off individual game themes. I know this is already what HS does but HS is still rooted in the same view type and I'd like to see more user customisation in a similar way that XBMC offers with multiple skins and even multiple view types and options within said skins.

Always hoped but never wanted to ask for it because I don't have the coding skills nor the have the time to learn (too busy learning and honing other skills). Go forth and make the greatest frontend ever known!

Hyperspin will still be here but I'd love for the community to move forward and break new ground with higher resolutions, expanded functionality, better optimization and even more eye candy.

I mentioned automatic switching between 4:3 and 16:9 themes. It was discussed at length in the old HS 2.0 thread and even the best suggestions on how it would be implemented were band aids on what is clearly a transitional problem between 4:3 themes and the newer 16:9 themes. We can attempt to integrate auto switching between the two(or three?) aspects, or we can maintain the status quo of one or the other or we can rethink the way we want screen elements work altogether. Something that the community will have to decide on.

Will it mean having to setup everything from scratch? :afraid:

Not sure if I have the willpower to do 245 systems again............

Just another update. 2.0 is what we already have with a few extra features. You guys don't thank djvj enough. He has implemented most the new features already with HL

Hyperspin 2.0 will be here sooner than you think. No one on this forum has any patience. It's coming. I've seen it, just working kinks out.

Whahaha, ok thanks for giving us back some hope, but at this point you can't accuse anyone of being impatient (though I'm doubtless a lot of us are) because how long was it ago when 2.0 was supposedly not too far off? I know it's measured in years ;)

BBB has been working and put hs2.0 on hold. Honestly because of the impatient Ill talk about it. Leave the guy alone, and give him some time. I'm assuring you, it is getting done, but the poor guy gets the 3rd degree every time he signs on.

Hahaha, fine. I get it. Only some sign of life every couple of months would've gone a long way. Even something like "still working on it, still a long time off" would suffice :)

Oh and ppl bugging him about it through pm should get an automatic warning and/or temporary ban :)

It's not through pm. He sees the same bitching that we all see every time he signs on. It's gotta be a buzzkill.

That's good to hear, thanks. I've been keeping my hopes up for such news.

I think the trouble is not a lack of patience, but the fact that Bill has been AWOL for ages, there have been no news updates regarding the status of 2.0 for a long time and the front page of the website is hopelessly out of date, so speculation is rife. The occasional reassuring announcement would put people's minds at ease.

All that said, I'm still very interested in seeing how Cabrio develops, as the appeal of a Linux based alternative to HS can't be denied.

Edit: sort of ninja'd by THK while I was typing this on my phone.

I'm in constant contact with Billy, and I try to reply to these threads. If ever in doubt please pm me before giving up hope. Thanks -baddie

Well for starters it still refers to "the newest HyperSpin 1.0" and there's no mention of RocketLauncher. I just thought it could do with a revamp to reflect the current state of play.

As much as I agree with you about it being out of date, you have to realize that I have zero admin over any forum not artwork related. Keeps me honest

Sorry guys if im being a douche, Im just confused. Whats the dif between Hyperspin 2.0 and Hyperspin 2 or am I not even in the same ball park?

Also I dont think anyones expecting weekly updates etc. But if something of this scale is being worked it would be nice to know? Again Im sorry, did I miss it?

Again, Im not trying to come across as some needy fanboy or a trouble causer, Im just left a little dazed by this what seems to be a bolt out of the blue of huge news.

I will let baddeolv to respond to you.......he would love it :D

as for the whole community stopped working......i am still making wheels, boxart, themes and art related stuff. and i see art updates everyday from contributing members and top notch art as well if i may say. I stated this a few times already, running the forum with a hand full of guys that also have a life outside of HS can take a bit more of time to manage. all i see i jabbering all the time but no one steps up to the plate and offers to help. only thing we see all the time we want this and we want that NOW!!!! you don't see what has to be done and updated and been working on behind the forum and trust me its a fulltime job on its own. This attitude is what gets us to go well fuck it then. and drains us from getting things done as well. and will eventually leave the forums with no admins or approvers.....

I love these threads every 6 months or so. I know hs is where it is at and that is it. Don't really care about new versions. Thanks to everone who made addons to overcome shortcomings! Thank you everyone who contributes stuff! Thank you admins for putting up with stuff, i know i could spend my time doing other things too. Dont much care about other front ends as hs is my fe of choice and as long as i want new stuff added for my setup, i will share with you fine people. Cheers!
