The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

A new Hyperspin?

baddeolv, thanks for the update. Glad to hear there will be a new version soon.

I don't think anyone was being impatient. BBB created something great and if he had moved on, I don't think anyone would blame him...ok, maybe Sir Cyrano would. Sometimes people move on, life takes over, people take on new projects. Happens to all of us. There was a perception he was no longer involved and given the lack of any updates over the past few years, I'm sure most here would agree that hyperspin seemed dead so some other talented people wanted to continue his project. Nothing wrong with that.

Glad to hear he's still working on it. Can't wait! I was going to give GameEx Evo a look but I guess I'll stay put and wait for HS2.

As said before: I only started this thread because it appears BBB has/had no intention of working on HS 2.0. If he is, I'd love to get a heads up, close this thread, and continue our original plans. I have no intention of competing with BBB for Windows users. I will still continue to work closely together with this community to share art, XML files, tools, work, etc. however. There's really no sense in re-inventing the wheel. :) If however he does not intend to build HS 2.0, I'd rather work together on this project with this community, than seeing people leave for GameEx. Any chance we could get an official statement on this from some of the admins?

Agreed....If nothing happens or is said, I foresee a good number of users migrating over to GameEx for their release of Evolution of which selected users already have the beta. If you have been keeping up with Evolution, you will know that it supports HS theme elements and artwork assets into the frontend. I'm not here to promote Evolution, I'm here looking for a reason to stay.

I personally use an older version of hyperspin so I really don't care either way. I understand getting frustrated we all have been in life in one thing or another but to use that as a reason to halt hyperspin 2.0? Maybe for a year? Maybe 2? But I've been on here for almost 4 years and haven't heard anything from BBB about 2.0. Again I don't care personally I just see how others can be getting frustrated. One post from BBB could end all this "I'm still working on 2.0" or "I'm not working on 2.0 anymore". That simple! I thank everyone especially BBB for making my arcade look so sweet but I think its time with gamex and now this for BBB to make an official statement maybe say it's a christmas present to the hyperspin community:)

I just don't see why we have to have communication on the project from a third party and not the project lead himself. No offense to baddeolv.

Make a post: "Guys, I know it's been a while but I'm working on it and it will be out when I think it's ready."

Or "Guys, sorry but my new job has me very busy and I don't think the project will see an update."

Getting a simple post from Bill like this would put a lot of aggravation to rest, but instead the whole forum has been getting the silent treatment for years now which just builds frustration from people waiting for 2.0. Personally, I don't care if 2.0 ever sees the light of day because so many side projects have taken care of some requested features, not to mention Gameex Evolution is around the corner....but I think this was handled wrong IMO.

I think good chunk of this community isn't that impatient. Sure I'd like to have additional sub wheels, artwork layers, and search features but for the most part I consider hyperspin done. I'm focused on adding more systems to my wheel, creating more wheels/videos/themes/databases.

I feel like my hyperspin hobby grows everyday with additional content and is thriving. If you want more then help create content for a new system wheel that can expand our gaming experience.

If I look at all the stuff I have, from the games to the art and videos, smooth launch into bezel screen, friends I made here and awesome hobby... even if Hyperspin never gets updated.... the literal thousands of hours of work that went into making this so shiny reminds me that what I have is well worth the donations/subs here, at emumovies and hyperlaunch.net. I can't thank this community enough for it all, and lets not forget the people making the emulators etc. I have capitalized so much on other people's hard work that I can't fathom complaining about a thing. And hey, if you want to mess with more than one front end, more power to you. But I have a sneaking suspicion that in many cases, what would attract you to another front end isn't the features that Hyperspin doesn't have.... but rather how many Hyperspin features that front end has. I know I'm pretty much nobody here, but it seemed like a good place to say it:

Sincere thanks to you all, even Sir Cyrano because I probably am using some of your art as well.

Because a lot of us use hyperspin on big widescren tvs and the lack of widescreen support is a big issue, especially for themes. it certainly keeps me away from making any themes.

I have no doubt that 90% of us have some of sirs art on our arcades, but it does not give him the right to call me a liar, and plant the ideas that my comments are made to fool people into spending money.

At the moment, I'm focused on migrating all my systems to RocketLauncher. That is absolutely amazing!! Thanks again to djvj for that incredible stuff. RL is already a great evolution since Hyperspin 1.0, and that clearly make the job. HS2? Why not, but for now there is enough work with new mame releases, differents emulators updating, databases updating, themes making, sound ripping, videos making... So please BBB, take your time and enjoy what has been accomplished. Even if HS2 was released, I think I had no time to try it now ;)

I think the biggest thing that needs to change is that people need to be obviously made aware prior to purchasing FTP access that HS has no updates for many years and will not have any for at least the foreseeable future. Yes there is a lot of great work available from people on there Nd it is a great resource. However I know there are a lot f people who buy the access based on thinking they are buying/giving to a program that is active.

I said it before, if BBB wants to never deal with HS again that is fine. But when you are still actively making money from something the least you could do is stop by the forum every couple months or so and say thank you to the people who purchase that access and thank you to the people who contribute all the nice stuff to it that makes it a valuable asset. Also maybe a thanks to the people who run the forums for him for free as I doubt those people get emails or pms from him saying it.

There is an update in the "foreseeable" future.

Hyperspin is active

Djvj is still adding support as well as others, me and my crew of approvers are steadily making artwork. Not to mention Hyperspin Project

BBB is indeed "dealing" with Hyperspin

And everyone who runs the forums for him are part of the Hyperspin team as well as really good friends of his, we were aware of him taking a break and he asked us to pick up some of his slack. No big deal. Friends helping friends

easy to obtain windows 7 source code and also hyperspin source. but it would be breaking a copyright's

for me to combine to two into a full operating system without the frills!

linux port's impossible. you would have to start from scratch.

who has the time to code a linux port which would be less as good as the windows version anyway.

and if bbb originally did hyperspin on Linux only! you would have people saying when are you going to do a windows port!

you just cant satisfy people.

my cab works fine 3+ years of configuring it! hyperspin runs awesome! my family loves it. what more can you do!

just a hobby not a Ferrari.

I am with a few others here.....

If hs 2 becomes vaporware i could care less.

This is visually the most impressive front end i have seen

If another front end wants to lure me and countless others away....They are going to have to show me more than the lack luster vid that I saw for the evo.

But if you have to have the latest and (greatest)...By all means.....

My friends are still astounded by hyperspin and with all the updated add ons by members RL etc...so am I.

Not to mention I dont want to reconfigure 4tb worth of info again

Id rather take a kick right to the soft and danglies...

So a perfectly valid thread got closed since people started to get completely off-topic?? You should have deleted those posts instead because the OP isn't to blame that things got out of control.

I knew this would end up like this since the first post though, it always does...

You are right on that note......i was just having a bad mood and tired of this crap, the thread is open again......but get back on topic guys

Thank you, gentlemen. :)

If programmers are interested: Please send me a PM so I can see how we can best work together. As things stand right now we're programming this in C++ using SDL/OPENGL. We've considered other libraries, but these seems to fit our needs best at the moment. We're open to suggestions though. I'll also try to have a chat with the RetroFE programmer, and have a look at what he has available at the moment.

Let's first produce something tangible; I'll do my best to either offer compatibility or conversion from HS works, though we won't be offering all dynamic HS features (from the start).

Let's use this thread mainly for feature requests please. Let me start off with a question about the menu structure: As far as I understand it, HS currently uses a 1 step menu structure, selectable between genre and system. I was wondering what the preference for a new menu structure would be:

1. A fixed menu structure defined by an XML hierarchy. This way a user can define for him/herself exactly what the menu structure should look like (and how deep it would run).

2. A dynamic menu structure, based on selectable criteria (system, genre, year, manufacturer, etc.) where the menu is generated automatically from a "database" of games depending on the selection settings defined by the user.

The second option allows more flexible switching between menu structures, but it also means that all game information needs to be available in order to properly set up the menu structure, and it implies that all games in a list will adhere to the same criteria. Any thoughts/preferences?
