New Unified Megatheme

Ok, Here's where the "mega" part comes in...

I initially wasn't going to do this because it would be too much work but i've decided since i've got this whole HD thing going I might as well fully build what I initially envisioned for this thing. Seeing what the community can rally and get done has made me far less concerned about volume of work and now I just want to focus on making the most useful, versatile theme possible.

Here's my first shot at that. A fully customizable Genesis theme!

Just rename the files in the theme zip to do all of the following:

> Pick a 3d or "retro" 2d character art.

> Choose your console (genesis 1, Genesis 2, Genesis 3, Megadrive, Megadrive 2)

> Choose your controller (Original Genesis, Megadrive, 6 button)

> Choose your vector logo (Genesis 1, Genesis 2, Megadrive)

> Choose your Background (Original grey on black grid, 2nd gen red stripes -- both also included in static, non animated form)

Mix and match them however you like. Here's a few examples:

Pretty rad eh? I'm nearing completion on all the 16 bit sega, nes and snes in this same form.

In the meantime .. i've updated my Release Ready Genesis theme with all this so head over to my FTP folder and check it out.

You guys rule. Keep ... uh ... ruling.

By the way ... once i get into the newer systems that just came in different colors, i'm not going to do all of those... this is mostly for the earlier consoles that had major design changes between regions or generations.

I might do, say .. a black Wii theme and a White Wii theme ... but not every color that came out for n64 or gameboy color.

I can't wait to show you guys the NES/Famicom one!

Ask and ye shall receive my friend. Was already planning on it but was having trouble finding good pictures. Decided to just photoshop my genesis pic into a jap mega drive. Came out well I think. The 2nd gen slim version is in there too.

Also added the lighter background to make it match the retail box. (same background that will be in mastersystem theme). I've updated the Release Ready theme.

They were the same yes, iirc. Same hardware, diff cases.

Small update to the main menu themes. Added an alternate MAME theme with a different marquee, and also updated the resolution for it and the Gamecube theme as I accidentally missed those two on my last pass.

But the bigger update, is that I've uploaded system themes for all systems in the original set. I'm only displaying a sample below, as the layout for each of them is generally the same; you can find them all in my folder. You'll also see my game text settings below, if you wish to display game info. There is one problem however, you'll notice that there is no box/cart art on any of them. This is because I don't have access to HyperSync and don't know what's available for all the systems. I personally use box sets I've gathered through FTP, but I only have those for the systems in my personal setup and I didn't think it worth it to upload themes fit to those when it is likely not what the majority of users will use.

#If you want to show game info on your system themes, place this in the 
#Hyperspin settings files for each system that is using the unified themes.

When you say "raided your FTP" who are you actually talking to???

Hey guys just a thought but maybe you should have these unified themes and wheels and bezels and all your other things in a Unified Minted Folder in the Upload Here section once each bit is complete. Keep your WIP in your own folders but put the final stuff in the one spot. There are so many of you working on it so the scattered nature could cause issues.

I've been quietly watching this project for a while and look forward to its completion.

Fair enough. I have only skimmed through the first few and last few pages. The first pages kind of gives the impression there are a lot more themes available than i could find. If that's not the case then i'll happily wait until they are released.

See that's my point. Dump the stuff that's done in one place. The WIP files once complete can be archived in a single place at a later date. You are dealing with a large project with no ETA for completion and if you don't centralise things you end up with a confusing situation for anyone that wants to grab stuff.

You can find standard versions of each theme in my folder. Keep an eye on gibbawho's folder though, as he's working on a "mega" version of each theme, which are very configurable and superior to my versions. Most everything done so far has been for widescreen (16:9), so if you are looking for standard definition (4:3) you can find a set for those under Styphelus' folder, though there have been a lot of changes to the project since those were released.

Uploaded the psd's....Eating my fist out of frustration of "the pen" tool...

Try using the rubber band feature in PS.....its really handy so you can assess the contour of the line as you use the pen tool

*chuckles* Yeah it always has been his baby which is why I found it so amusing to see all the themes in your folder.

When the Nintendo Game Boy Wheel Art project started the first thing I did was make a WIP area divided into Source Art folders by letter named correctly as per the official XML. Admittedly I'm dealing with hundreds of folders and close to two thousand files even before the boys started work.

gibbawho's project here is being watched by pretty much everyone you can poke a stick at. If he wants me to give suggestions or whatever I'm very happy to help. Eventually all the files will need to be brought together. And I very much want all the source artwork to be archived as well. Brolly and Tim have both poked their heads in here with obvious interest.
