What is your SO's attitude about you and hyperspin? Does he or she dig it, love it, loathe it, not care? What's the story? Have you set up the emulator of love or you just can't make it sync? ; )

My mistress of finance has at one time or another requested the following :

  • Improments on the blip blip bop bop sounds on each of the games as they sound so old
  • Has asked why I can't just plug in a joystick into my every day computer :banghead:
  • Turn the lights down on my Hyperpin cabinet
  • Equal value of money to what I have spent on my arcade cabinets on her sewing and coffee machine :stupid:

Other than that, she likes it a little cause she can play her old SEGA games.

Only she is not fully aware of my plans to make a driving cab sometime soon. :)

My wife thought I was kidding when I told her I was going to build an arcade cabinet. When I had the frame done, she said I was on drugs if I thought it was going upstairs. When she saw it completed she said it looked "nice" and Hyperspin was "neat" and then walked away. Overall she is fine with it and she is OK with it being in the basement since it is out of sight out of mind but loves it when her nephews come over and leave everyone alone for hours as they play. She is OK with me playing and tweaking so all good. Unfortunately I am now stockpiling parts for future barcade builds and another arcade cabinet, whch she is not happy since the basement has all of it just sitting there. However, next up is a virtual pinball machine. She actually likes pinball so she is looking forward to that and is "allowing" me to store everything.

my wife loves playing arcade games and I get frustrated because she spends more time on my machine than me some weeks. I get very frustrated I can't tinker with my setup.

Hahaha, I get this way with my setup because it is our living room HDTV and my htpc. Drives me up the wall when I have to wait to tinker because of some reality "Say yes to the dress" show lol

I genuinely think mine thought I was disappearing night after night on the PC in the other room because I was talking to some other girl online. Think she was secretly pleased when I emerged with an arcade cabinet though she'd never admit it.

Kids live it though.

My Wife loves a bit of Super Puzzle Fighter II on MAME, but doesn't play anything else. She get irritated by the wheel sound effects on Hyperspin (I like them so they are staying!) But most of the time she's just not interested in gaming, or hearing about how i've just managed to do something new & amazing with my Hyperspin PC....

you can turn them off in hq just untick game sounds and have the clicks on only speaking of wheel sounds

can we add our own sounds for download its time we added new sound effects for each machine that would be nice

My wife thought i had finished my passion for building arcade machines when we had to move house and i had to get rid of my full size cab due to space issues in the new place......until i made a bartop

Does not keep her off Puzzle Bobble though...... i would of finished the config on my systems a lot sooner thats for sure!:hmpf:

My ex wife let me put my cab smack dab on the first floor for all to see, as she thought it looked impressive to company when it came over.

She played the Golden Tee games with the trackball. She also liked playing me in Mortal Kombat 1 and liked any puzzle game in MAME that was like Puzzle Bobble.

The only time she really got frustrated with it is when after she saw how many games MAME offered and I began setting up other arcade systems she would say "Honestly...with all the games MAME has do you really have to spend more time adding other Arcade systems??? You won't even get halfway through MAME's library in your lifetime!!!!"

Other than that she had no problems with it.

Tell wife I'm going to build an upright arcade machine. She says "where are you going to fit that"

Tell wife I changed the plans into a large coffee table that will take up more than twice as much floor space as the arcade machine... "oh that's fine we need a new coffee table you can put that in the lounge room"....?

I keep building arcade machines and restoring pinball machines to go in the house, there's 13 machines in the house with 2 more about to come in. The wife finally asked me to stop, I though it would happen several games ago :)

Haha, she had to stop you at some point. I tell my fiancé all the time, when I buy the house the living room and bedroom is all yours. Stay outta my mancave and kitchen and we will be rockin!

Lol

It's funny that 2 of the machines are "hers"

Yet, she never plays any of them, she knows how, but doesn't care, she just walks around them all day, lol

I have a devious plan to put a pole position cockpit in our sons room when she is gone some day, when she complains about that one, I'll just tell her , " if you can move it, get it out of here", but she won't , the kids will love it to much, and she's a sucker for their happiness :)

My wife has known for years the arcade machine was coming. She has seen the software running, blah blah. But now that the big black cabinet is here, lurking ominously in my shop, awaiting it's heartbeat like the Tin Man.....She said " Where do you plan on putting that? It doesn't match anything.".

My wife hates me spending time on these projects.

Since my office didn't have space for a cabinet, I built this:

Which she wasn't a huge fan, but then played hours of Galaga, and her opinion improved.

Of course that just wet my whistle for another project. I knew we didn't have a lot of space, but I built this out of some spare parts from a cheap desk hutch:

Wife gives me dirty looks every time I use it for now. I'll get her to do some 2 player Soul Calibur and she'll be hooked.
