@80'sMan,

Aaaah, ok, don't do anything with the screen rotation in Windows. This is one thing that will throw you off, remember I made these already laid out in a 9:16-ish orientation, nothing gets changed within windows or your video drivers, you simply turn your screen. BUT, the other issue is which way to turn it!!?? A while ago we had a thread that kinda discussed this and even OEM cocktail cabs had the screen mounted in either direction so I just went with the way I had started. If the controls for your monitor are on the bottom, then they will be facing the right. Hopefully it's not to bad and you can just switch it around, if it's a pain you could use irotate, I think thats what a few guys have used to flip things around without remounting the screen. But it sounds like your trying to use both traditional and these vertical themes in the same cab, which may not work if your not changing your viewpoint, like in a 4 player cocktail cab. Does some of that help at all?

I'm in Annapolis so Columbia isn't far at all. I remember once you played in Richmond but I couldnt get down there. Lemme know when you're in Columbia and I will check you guys out! **check your pm

@Cmoses,

haha wow can't get anything by you!! You're correct, technically in the end there should only be 3 slightly different glasstops. The ones that are specific to the table, like you mentioned with additional artwork or cutouts. Then what I consider version 1 and version 2. If you did an exact grid layout of the actual tabletop dimensions the first 20-30 themes maybe, have a slightly different dimension then the rest. There was a very slight variance in the curve on one corner, granted I may have been the only one that noticed, but it bugged the crap out of me and I finally had to fix it. So I had to redo the glass layer as well, which proved interesting because the original file got corrupted on a usb drive. So the V2 is definitely slightly different then V1. But rest assured before I do a final dump to the ftp I'll go through each one and make sure i've matched up the right glass to the right theme, as well as the basic template for the theme.

In regards to some of the games you listed, I think a couple of them were clones, which we tried to weed out. The others may not have had workable settings for a cocktail cab? Maybe Greg can chime in, he helped me put together the games list to work from so he might be able to shed some light. Of course it wouldn't surprise me if someone popped up with another small LIST of games to do!! HAHA!

Anyway hope that kinda answers a little.

well crap, my response is in Moderator limbo lol

I had that happen to me as well. Was there over a day so I went ahead and posted the same info. Weird, I have never had that happen.

Ok, here's the short short reply, hopefully when it's finally posted your guys will have answers, it was just to much info to retype late last night.

@cmoses, you are correct in seeing the differences, but don't worry that will all get ironed out in my final ftp dump. Also some of the games you listed are clones, others may not have proper cocktail setting available? Hopefully bent98 can chime in, he helped me allot on putting together "the list".

@80'sMan, Don't tell windows to rotate the desktop, that was taken into consideration when doing these themes, just physically rotate the monitor. If you have controls along the bottom of your monitor, they should be facing left after the proper rotation.

I am not sure which games are we talking about. Can I get a list of titles? Remeber vertical games that do not support cocktail mode are not valid. They have to be able to flip. Now shooters you can split the screen so both players can play at the same time.

We eliminated clones, prototypes, and bootlegs as well.

bent98,

I am not sure which games are clones, prototypes and bootlegs and I am also not sure which ones support cocktail mode. When I put together the available downloads from the FTP site there are some games that have wheel images, but do not have a theme. I figured since they had wheels created for them that the intent was to make themes for them. Here is the list of games that have wheels but do not have themes available on the FTP site.

Acrobat Mission, Act-Fancer, Air Duel, Air Raid, Alcon, Alien Invasion, Alley Master, Amatelass, Arm Wrestling, Ataxx, Blue Print, Bump n Jump, Brix, Burnin Rubber, Crazy Kong, Crush Roller, Mr. Do vs Unicorns, Eagle, Exciting Hour, Exerion, Fitter, Flak Attack, Flying Shark, Galaga 3, Karate Champ vs, King of Bocer, Mania Challenge, Moon Alien, Q*bert Qubes, Rally X, Defend the Terra Attack on the Red UFO, Rush & Crash, Shaoins Road, Space Invasion, Super Qix, Star Jacker, Stratovox, Super Xevious, Terra Cresta, Tip Top, Top Gunner, Typhoon, vs Gong Fight and Zarzon.

This list does not include the last batch of games that jeepguy81 has been working on. Some of these may fall into the clone group or the non cocktail mode group. I really do not know. Maybe you can clarify. I wasn't sure if these had been posted at one time and then got lost when the FTP site got erased. I just noticed that they had wheel art but no themes.

Thanks for your help

Clayton

off the top of my head i know a few of those have been done, but they may have gone MIA since the ftp debacle, those will obviously been put back, a good number of those I remember as being clones and/or non-cocktail setting friendly. Bent98 and I kept chipping away at the list as we went so I think a few wheels that I made at first we realized they were a clone and never got removed from the ftp zip. Again dont' worry it'll all get cleaned up, then we'll wait for Clayton to find something wrong!! :rofl:

j/k somebody's gotta keep us on our toes!

oh yeah, i do still have those don't worry.

2 more that I had on a short list. Again these are not what you could call official since they are not on our main list, Joust is just a personal favorite that I can't see not having on a cocktail cab. 10yard fight was a request. These are natively horizontal, but in mame you can duplicate the view so both can play, in which case both players fit in a vertically oriented screen fairly well. It's not for everyone, just an idea.

great job as always, this thread makes me glad I own a cocktail cab. Thankfully my cab has a 3rd controller.

I'm not a fan of the split screen but those games are great, the split screen is better then not having them.

Killer Jeep! Joust 2 was vertical, I assume that one is all done though.

Hi Jeep, have you come across any other vertical themes for horizontal games? I've got a three sided cocktail cab and I will definitely be using this set for my vertical games but I also want to have all the two player horizontal games on the vertical wheel as well. The obvious solution would be to use a default them for the rest but if there were any proper themes I'd be interested.

@hyperion...

I can only foresee there being a select few, at least ones that I intend to make. ( as in joust, mario bros..) They are just something I am adding into the mix personally because I remember playing them on cocktail tables back in the day. That's not to say I won't do a few requests here and there, I'm always game to help out, but opening it up to the rest of the mame catalog of games is mind boggling lol. Doing a nice default theme for any horizontal games you want to add is a good idea. As we finish this up maybe guys can throw some ideas together for a good default theme (or a couple) that way we try to give as much flexibility as possible. Plus I will have template for everything so if someone wants to tackle doing more of these they can have at it!

I would like to see a basic vertical and horizontal theme made available so that you could use it for any game out there.

They would be just a blank black table with a joystick and a couple of buttons. The vertical theme would be similar to what already exists with the monitor cutout being vertical. This could be used for vertical games as well as horizontal games in cocktail mode.

The horizontal theme would be the same except for the screen cutout being horizontal. This would allow got people to easily add games that where horizontal cocktails such as Joust, Tapper, Defender etc. Displaying horizontal games on a vertical monitor is not ideal but people may want to do it and I think using the overlays through MAME would make them look ok.

Instead of making whole new themes for horizontal games or just a good default theme I was wondering if this was possible:

post-59062-142870584254_thumb.jpg

Is it possible to some how batch process the current horizontal themes to mimic a true cocktail mode? There would only be one wheel and for player 2 the wheel would be upside down but it'd be cool wouldn't it? I doubt it very much but is it possible to run Hyperspin in true 'cocktail' mode? With the whole of Hyperspin duplicated and rotated to be displayed as you see it above? Someone has asked this before, but it didn't go anywhere from memory.

one last non-vertical theme I personally wanted to make...

And finally we are at the end......no really, it really is THE END! haha

This was another case where at the last second I found an actual pic of a cocktail cab, which again just a boring black tabletop, so the black oem version is the main theme, with the green one being the alternate.

Well thats it guys, finally hit the end of the list!

Still a little work to get everything straightened out and set to be downloaded, but the hard part is done.

There is no cocktail mode in HS, gotta be achieved graphically. You could always try that idea, the issues of video and the special artwork would have to be reworked as well.

Yeah, after some thought I realised that the major sticking point is that Hypertheme doesn't support any more than one video, so it'd be impossible to do "graphically", as you say. I'm just working on a default theme at the moment. Maybe an arcade machine that uses wheel art to reflect the respective game. Is there a deposit of hi res wheel art somewhere? Not necessary but would be useful in making sure the final product is of the highest quality.

I don't think that the horizontal games should necessarily have a cocktail default theme (EDIT: although I dare say I'll be using the ones you've already done). Let the native vertical games use your awesome cocktail table themes and the horizontal games just have a default theme that is vertical display friendly. Maybe have two genre's in the Cocktail MAME wheel; one for true vertical games and another for native horizontal games.

Thanks so much for all the work you've done here, Jeep. It has been a long road (nearly there! EDIT: You just posted The End!) and we all appreciate the amount of work it's taken to accomplish. Thanks for sharing.
